Connecting Generations. Serving Members. Building the Future.

A century ago, Marie Prisland created the Slovenian Union of America (SUA) with a clear vision:

to build a community where Slovenians and their descendants could stay connected to their heritage while supporting one another across generations.

Today, our responsibility is not only to preserve that vision—but to carry it forward into the next century.

Our organization must once again focus on serving members, connecting generations, and strengthening our shared Slovenian heritage.

1. Members First

The strength of the Slovenian Union of America has always been its members.

This SUA slate will ensure:

  • Open and consistent communication with members

  • Greater transparency in leadership and decision-making

  • Opportunities for members to share ideas and shape our future

Members are not observers—they are the heart of this organization.

2. Connecting All Generations

Marie Prisland envisioned an organization that welcomed every generation.

We will strengthen connections between all members wanting to learn more about their Slovenian-American heritage, including:

  • Elders who preserve our traditions

  • Adults who sustain our community

  • Young members who will lead our future

Through opportunities including (but not limited to):

  • Intergenerational cultural events

  • Youth engagement and leadership opportunities

  • Mentorship and heritage storytelling programs

  • Direct communication to all members

Our heritage becomes stronger when generations learn from one another.

3. Vibrant Local Branches

Our branches are the foundation of our community.

We will support branches by:

  • Encouraging cultural events and gatherings

  • Creating cultural interest groups and activities

  • Promoting networking and community engagement

Branches should be places where members have the opportunity to gather in person to celebrate Slovenian culture, build friendships, and support one another.

4. National and Virtual Connections

While local branches are essential, we must also connect our community nationally and digitally.

We will:

  • Host national cultural programs and events and work with other Slovenian organizations

  • Create virtual opportunities for members to connect

  • Support collaboration among branches across the country

Distance should never prevent members from participating in our shared heritage.

5. Growing the Next Century of Membership

To remain strong for the next 100 years, we must actively welcome new members.

Our focus will include:

  • Engaging younger generations of Slovenian Americans

  • Promoting cultural pride and heritage education

  • Creating meaningful programs that bring new members into our community

Growth ensures our traditions continue to thrive.

Our Shared Future

The mission of the Slovenian Union of America has always been about community, culture, and connection.

By honoring the vision of Marie Prisland and focusing on our members, we can build an organization that is:

  • Welcoming

  • Transparent

  • Innovative

  • Intergenerational

  • Proud of our Slovenian heritage

Together, we will ensure that the Slovenian Union of America continues to connect generations, celebrate our heritage, and serve our members for the next century of the SUA.

To assure the future of SUA, vote Echevarria, Novak, Vogeler and Wood under the collective name "Members Matter" as your next National Board leaders.
